Client Testimonials

My husband and myself would like to thank you, the management and all the staff of Misty Hills for an unforgettable weekend at your wonderful hotel. We booked in on Friday afternoon 11 November and we were treated like royalty up until Sunday morning when we left. Our dinner at Carnivores and our Breakfast at the hotel was outstanding and exceptionally good. We vowed to be ambassador’s for Misty Hills in future and will promote you as far as we can. With such outstanding service and a great team of friendly and happy staff you surely have a winning recipe.

Please also convey our appreciation to Debbie at the weekend Magazine for her efforts and friendliness.

Our launch was a great success and we would like to say thank you so much for your contribution through your professionalism, dedication, adaptability and such hard work. And always with a smile and an unbelievably easy willingness!

We work with so many different venues and we can say that the Misty Hills team are some of the best we have had the pleasure to associate with. You didn’t flinch at a single one of our requests, some crazier than others, and we felt like we were all part of an extended team. Most notably, we wish to apologise for cutting and chopping up your venue but also to thank you for allowing us free reign (and the support!) to do so!

We will not hesitate to recommend you to others and look forward to working with you again in future. Please forward our thanks to everyone in your team who helped make our launch such a success.

Thanks again!

We have been coming to Misty Hills on a regular basis for the last 5 Years. And I would go so far as to say you will have to look very far to find a better hotel. From the start of our relationship with this hotel Lewis Mujati has been there, I have seen him Progress from Receptionist to Manager The guy is absolutely brilliant in what he does, and how he is always able to get me a room doesn't matter when I call I will never know. The previous manager Gilbert was always on hand and helpful. I must say Peter van Raaij has stepped in and got things right from the start. Teunis is also always around when needed. Praise God is the friendliest porter you will meet anywhere in the world ( Trust me I have been a couple of places National and International) Adolfina I am eternally grateful to you for getting my daughters clothes clean( still don't know how you did it)Johanna, Melusi, Kenny Blessing, the names are to many to mention for great service. To spend you wedding anniversary dinner at a table specially set up for you in the wine cellar with candles and rose petals so that you can have time alone was absolutely devine.

This hotel is tops of many places that we have stayed AND WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK.

THANK YOU

JAN & RIANA HARMSE.

I treated family and guests from the States on the eve of New Year 2012, and booked five deluxe rooms. Although the Spa was fully booked out, we had an amazing time. My foreign guests who love Africa, were visibly moved by the setting and views. The breakfast was fulfilling and the sights and water features were relaxing and peaceful. Being a local, I always chill at this getaway and the kids are always entertained. Thank you to the wonderful staff who were always eager to please. The Carnivore is a must to experience and halaal meals may be catered. .

Room Tip: Various rooms to choose, but the best rooms for value are the Deluxe Rooms.

Just outside of Johannesburg, I have spent many a day relaxing at the pool, in a Botanical setting. As a preacher who travels extensively, returning to Misty Hills is better, than home!
Eating at the Carnivor is my favorite African restaurant , all you can eat wild game, even crocodile! 10 minutes from Lions, Crocodile, and The Cradle on Mankind.

Stay in village 8,or if you can afford a bit more, in the Rhodes Suite, or Presidential Suite!

First hotel on our holiday and staff were very accommodating when we turned up early after an overnight flight. Room was simple but tastefully decorated. Brilliant breakfast and we also enjoyed the use of their facilities.

Old building beautifully renovated, love the persian carpets, lovely atmosphere, wonderful friendly staff, excellent food if you like a lot of meat, but other choices as well and the spa ... well, what can I say?

Excellent stay....and great Carnivore Food....”

We stayed at Misty Hills for a night in August 2011 and right from the onset, the reservations were handled in a very professional way which was quite encouraging.

Upon arrival to the Hotel, we were welcomed by the General Manager, Gilbert Hickman himself who poured a refreshing glass of sherry as we checked in!

The rooms were great and we were lucky to get upgraded into a wonderful Suite...

We felt totally at home for the entire stay and meeting Gilbert and watching him interact with his guests made us feel part of a family.

Dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant is a must-do for anyone living in South Africa!
Great food, great staff and a wonderful atmosphere almost as good as the Nairobi Carnivore....

The Hotel is the brain child of the owner Mr Fitzgerald whom we met and admired in his vision for a real African Hotel setting done so well.

Definitely a countryside Hotel just a few minutes away from the busting Johannesburg city and Sandton City!

Well done to Gilbert and the team!

Booked 2 nights at Kedar Country hotel for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms, spacious. Best of all are the staff. We overslept on our final day and missed breakfast. The manager on duty was very understanding and arranged for food to be made especially for us. We were also allowed to check out late without any hassle.

On our way to the museum tour, I drove into a ditch and Mafias (not sure about the spelling of his name) was extremely helpful and him and a colleague worked tirelessly in the heat to get us out. Overall, we had a good experience and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

Stayed January 2012, travelled with family

I travelled to Kedar to do some game reserve drives in Pilanesberg. The price from the hotel is much cheaper than nearby competitor.s It's 2.5hrs away from Joburg and 30 min from Sun City.

I travelled solo and was driven to the hotel from Joburg by John who is a very nice chap. I'm glad I didn't rent a car, as South Africa doesn't use long distance road signs; all of the road signs only show the distance to the nearest town.

The room was comfortable and I had a relaxing stay. The staff were very friendly as well. The food in the Armory was okay, but I really enjoyed the food in the pub.

Stayed December 2011, travelled solo

When we told our South African friends we were staying in Rustenburg, they all turned up their noses and said it was an industrial town and we wouldn't see the best of South Africa. Admittedly the town itself isn't the most picturesque of places but just outside it the Kedar centre is very attractive. The accommodation and setting are great and we really enjoyed the food at the hotel's restaurant. Chef William introduced himself and served us the best steak we had all holiday (we went on to Cape Town and dined in some very upmarket restaurants so this is some compliment). We had treatments at the Spa and were very impressed with everything there. In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would go back myself at the first opportunity.

Came here with two friends and our husbands for the ist leg of our South African holiday. We were a bit apprehensive at first because we were told by South African friends that Rustenburg is not a very nice location. Once pass security Kedar is like being in another world, Our accommodation was individual thatched huts in what appeared like a small rainforest, everything was spotlessly clean . We enjoyed some lovely meals in the restaurant and the bar, both being very reasonably priced. Staff very very helpful and friendly. Would definitely reccommend this hotel to anybody staying in this area (felt totally safe), you won't be disappointed. Very well placed for the Pilanesburg Reserve and Sun City. Spa centre was also very good.

  • [16-11-2011] COMMITMENT TO THE ENVIRONMENT

The Recreation Africa group is actively involved in wetland rehabilitation at the farm Boekenhoutfontein in the North-west Province. The results so far have been amazing. The group is also involved in a pygmy hippo breeding programme which is co-sponsored by Hippo.co.za. We have a real commitment to wildlife and its sustainable use. This we promote through breeding programmes, as well as the Carnivore Gourmet Meat company which specialises in the use of game meat. We are actively involved in the planting and propagating indigenous trees. We have a "Miracle Tree" project. The group has a firm commitment to recycling and composting. Where possible we have recycled buildings and we use local materials to lessen carbon footprint. We also make use of invasive trees to make furniture and to build with. The group has launched its own organic farming programme - the produce will be used in our hotels and restaurants, as well as to feed our own animals. We produce free range cattle and sheep, and have a piggery. We are also currently working on a programme to produce our own Tilapia (indigenous table fish)

Misty Hills was visited by members of the Greening Hotels in South Africa project, and this is what they had to say about our efforts -

From Carolina de Figueiredo, member of the Greening Hotels in South Africa project:

“I recently visited Misty Hills Country Hotel as part of a 'Greening Hotels in South Africa' project, funded by the UK Department of Environmental Affairs, to assess the efforts they making towards becoming a more sustainable and green accommodation, and to suggest where improvements can be made and new interventions brought in.

During my visit to Misty Hills, I was able to walk through the whole property, viewing both the exterior, grounds and interior of the property.

The efforts Misty Hills is showing towards becoming more 'green' are commendable. For example, sourcing 50% of their water from their own dam, efficient use of lighting and energy throughout the property, reduction of plastic bottles, green towel and linen change programmes, grey water re-use and use of mostly indigenous plants throughout the property.

Besides what they are already undertaking, my visit demonstrated that they are always looking to improve and are on the right path to continual greening.”
