Client Testimonials

Wish we could have stayed longer.

Stayed here at the end of our trip to meet friends after a week long safari.
Beautiful setting, even more beautiful room (we had a suite) and a very relaxing atmosphere.
We ate at the carnivore restaurant. Bit of advice, don't fill up too early on as the food keeps coming and gets more exotic after a while. It's delicious as long as you dont mind eating "cute" animals.

What a lovely place to stay at

We booked to eat at The Carnivore and thought we would spend the night there instead of driving after the meal. The rooms are all in a lovely setting of trees and ponds and local plants. The bed was very comfortable and the staff were helpful and friendly. The price was good too. The kids were able to go swimming before the meal at the pool and everyone had a great day and evening. I recommend staying there after visiting the restaurant, its worth it. The breakfast is also really good.

Fantastic place for a weekend getaway

I decided at the last minute to take a weekend away in Johannesburg just before Christmas and I am so glad i chose hills. Samantha in reservations was so professional I had my confirmed booking in a couple of minutes. She recommended I try Carnivore which was an amazing and affordable experience. The front office staff were also great. I must say, it was beyond my expectations and I was only about 20km from home.

“Unforgettable stay”

Checked into Misty Hills on Saturday 30th May. Check-in process was quick and easy as usual. I have stayed here previously as well as at the sister hotel Kedar in Rustenburg. This hotel just gets better and better. All the staff are amazing, very welcoming and genuinely care, if everything you need has been provided. 30min after our check-in we received a call from reception, asking if all was well in the unit, if we needed anything else and what time we prefered our dinner at the Carnivore restaurant. The hotel also has 7 executive suites which all have fireplaces. We were booked into the Shaka Royal suite. The suite had its own private patio, plunge pool and outside shower. The bathroom had a sunken bath, with a sliding door that opened out into the garden, allowing for a truly romantic experience. The lounge area had Victorian furnisher and also had a sliding door which opened up next to the private plunge pool. Throughout the unit were TURN DOWN lights. The bedroom had beautiful towel animals decorating the bed, with a pillow menu and a beautiful African art statue above the bed. Dinner at Carnivore was another awesome experience. The sound of an Owl hooting at night while laying awake in bed, made us truly enjoy the "Forest" feel of the holiday, more like Shakespear's Midsummer nights dream.

Breakfast was served in the Summerhouse and was really plentiful, an amazing, tasteful breakfast, full of variety as always. I chose a table next the fireplace. I will ALWAYS come back to Misty Hills, be it in summer or winter and i always recommend this accommodation as a first choice to all my family and friends local and abroad. Thank you Misty Hills for yet another MAGICAL HOLIDAY.

“Home away from home”

We enjoyed being at Misty, very calm & relaxing yet not far from home. I would love to go back with our kids.
The food is was well prepared, the stuff is friendly and welcoming. The view is to beauty.

“Ambience and peace”

This is one place that is a hidden gem , when you drive in the gates you are not aware of the beauty and beauty hidden in Misty Hills.

Needing a teambuilding week and break from the office this was just the perfect setting well spaced rooms in true 4-star style. even the reception and staff throughout the establish are beaming with life and friendliness.

“A quick getaway from the madness”

It's insane to think how easy it is to get out of the city hustle and bustle and find some tranquility almost right on your doorstep.

We had such a lovely time at the hotel that we booked in an extra evening and opted to leave super early on the Monday morning to get to our offices.

The staff were friendly and most of the meals we had were superb (try the snack basket, really good)

The gardens are magical to walk through and there is a lot to keep your mind busy if you are trying to unwind from thinking about work.

“Had a great time”

From check-in, all the way to checkout, this hotel did not disappoint. The venue is located really close to JHB and yet, you feel like you are way out in the the bush-veld far removed from the city hustle and bustle. If you can, check in with Lindiwe at reception, she really is fabulous at her job and made us smile right from the start.

We chose to stay in one of the bigger executive suites but after looking at one of the normal rooms, I will save the extra money and just stay there. It really is well done and we could not see any major differences. That being said, the executive suite was large and spacious with the bathroom a proper room of decent proportions. A great big sliding glass door provided ample light and everything was clean and well maintained. You most definitely will not need to pack any towels, I counted more than 15 available in the bathroom! Another nice additional service offered by the hotel is the pillow selection menu. They offer a variety of pillows sure to meet your preference.

The hotel also has a lot of variety in terms of food selection. I counted no less than 3 different places to order food from with very reasonable prices. Breakfast was included and what a breakfast selection they have! There is most definitely something for everyone and we enjoyed the wide variety that they had available.

We will be sure to visit the hotel again in future, it was a great weekend breakaway!

“Paradise found!”

Who knew there was such a tropical paradise just outside Johannesburg!? The room and ablution facilities were spacious, clean and cool. The thatched roof just adds a wonderful ambiance to the room. The dense gardens and many water features are well kept, with the winding paved walking routes a joy to experience. The few days my wife and I spent there was the perfect start to a well deserved holiday. We found the staff very friendly and willing to assist. Breakfasts were of a wide variety (fruit, pastries, bacon & eggs etc) and delicious. The only 'downside' of our visit was that the curio shop was never open at the times stated, but with a mall just 10 minutes drive away, this was no biggie. We most certainly plan to stay at this paradise again!

“somewhere beautiful”

On the 3 0ctober 2014 my sisters and I checked in at the misty hills hotel, we helped from the time we arrived , the staff were so friendly and helped us carry our bags, a guy by the name of praise lord was so friendly and helpful, the food and beverage manager Mr carter was also very professional along with Ryan the chef. After the dinner we went back to the hotel room and prepared for a goodnights rest , the room was clean and in immaculate condition . I like the fact the rooms aren't on top of each other so it feels like a real getaway and retreat , perhaps the spa at misty hills needs to be promoted more as I love spa treatments but there was no spa menu in the rooms. I will definitely be at misty hills again. Its was somewhere beautiful

“Peace and tranquility”

We were treated to a gift voucher for Christmas and decided to redeem it at Misty Hills Country Hotel on the eve of South Africa's Heritage Day. We so enjoyed the setting, the lovely sound of water from the water features, the good food and friendly service. Even though our stay was short, we felt relaxed and rejuvenated.

“Honeymoon treat”

We stayed for 3 nights after our wedding, friendly staff, beautiful surroundings, comfortable room, scrumptious food and wonderful spa. Lovely way to start our life together. Carnivores was great, tried crocodile and Zebra.

“The new Standard”

We found a special on the Internet for a night at the Misty Hills Hotel. Then we thought why not.

We did not know about the place and just took a chance. What a wonderful surprise!

Just the welcome we received at reception told us that we are in for a treat. Then we went to the room, and I couldn't believe it. I was expecting a rusty old place in nature, but what we encountered was luxury at its best! The room was spacious, neat and very warm considering how cold it was on the day.
Everything in the room was perfect!

I will definitely come back and spend more days at this hotel. It was a visit well worth it.

Thank you especially for the efficient and very friendly staff for making our stay as wonderful as it was.

Kind regards,

“Good and comfortable”

We stayed here for 4 nights and really enjoyed it. The surroundings are really good though it was easy to get lost over the first couple of days. The food in the Gin Bar was good. I have stayed before on business but only one night but was impressed so when I brought my wife out for a holiday the Misty Hills was chosen as one of our stay overs.

I've been to over 40 countries and rarely am I so impressed with a hotel. The grounds were immaculate, the gardens stunning and water features everywhere. From the hand-carved doors to the unique touches that made the African experience at Misty Hills more than just special... truly memorable. My family and I loved the Carnivore Restaurant from the wild game to the beautiful singing of the staff. The staff connected us to the local lion park and it was fantastic for our children to pet baby lions. Breakfasts were always fresh and even their take on baked beans (with a little chili powder and some onions) made them special. The large jacuzzi tub in our suite was awesome and my wife and two children (8 and 10) and I had a fun and relaxing soak with tons of bubbles. Our only regret... it couldn't last forever.

“Recent trip was a fantastic experience”

Stayed at Misty Hills for two nights and highly recommend it! Found it to be very clean, fantastic service, lovely "African experience". The breakfast was outstanding and Carnivores is always excellent. Adapters in rooms for international appliances, fast wi-fi (refreshing after experiencing poor wi-fi reception in a few other hotels around SA). Heaters in rooms, cozy decor and very quiet. Will definitely stay there again!

I've been to over 40 countries and rarely am I so impressed with a hotel. The grounds were immaculate, the gardens stunning and water features everywhere. From the hand-carved doors to the unique touches that made the AfI stayed here for two nights in May, as I was attending a nearby wedding. The hotel kindly allowed me to check in early as I had arrived in the morning following an overnight flight from the UK. All the staff at the hotel were very welcoming and helpful, and on check in there are cold drinks and muffins offered while you check in. Also in the evening, there is hot chocolate and sherry on offer. My room was a twin bedded room in 'Village 7'. The rooms are actually huts/rondavels set out in 8 small 'villages' in the extensive grounds of the hotel. Luckily there are golf buggies on hand to run guests around if needed. The Village contained about 12 thatched huts set out around an area with streams and small pools, with reeds and bushes giving each room lots of privacy. I quite enjoy birdwatching and the opportunities for this around Misty Hills were plentiful. There is also a map and a guide to follow a walk round the grounds looking at certain features including some interesting statues / carvings of local animals. The room was very clean, the bedding was very comfortable and there was a shower and a bath. The water pressure in the shower was fabulous, and some nice smelling shampoo / soap etc was provided. There was a television in the room, and although there were a few more channels than the 4 terrestrial south African channels, the choice still was not all that great. There was also a fridge with free bottled water. I think there was a notice somewhere in the room saying you could also ask for the fridge to filled with mini bar stuff but I didn't bother. There were no sounds at all at night and I slept very soundly till the birdsong of the morning woke me up. When I needed to phone reception to sort anything out they answered very quickly. Breakfast was a short walk from my room, on the first morning it was a buffet breakfast in the restaurant. There was plenty of choice of the usual hot breakfast stuff as well as continental, including pastries, cheeses, hams, juices, yoghurts, and lots of fresh prepared fruit. The following morning the hotel kindly set up tables outside on the lawn for all the wedding guests to eat together. I ate at the restaurant on site, Carnivore and will review that separately. Again the golf buggies were very helpful in transporting us up and down to the restaurant. Finally I had a fabulous afternoon in the spa and a morning by the lovely pool. All the staff at Misty Hills bend over backwards to make guests feel relaxed and welcome. And if I was looking for somewhere in the Johannesburg area to spend a few days chilling, I would return to Misty Hills.

My husband and myself would like to thank you, the management and all the staff of Misty Hills for an unforgettable weekend at your wonderful hotel. We booked in on Friday afternoon 11 November and we were treated like royalty up until Sunday morning when we left. Our dinner at Carnivores and our Breakfast at the hotel was outstanding and exceptionally good. We vowed to be ambassador’s for Misty Hills in future and will promote you as far as we can. With such outstanding service and a great team of friendly and happy staff you surely have a winning recipe.

Please also convey our appreciation to Debbie at the weekend Magazine for her efforts and friendliness.

Kind regards,

Karen & Pieter Carstens

Our launch was a great success and we would like to say thank you so much for your contribution through your professionalism, dedication, adaptability and such hard work. And always with a smile and an unbelievably easy willingness!

We work with so many different venues and we can say that the Misty Hills team are some of the best we have had the pleasure to associate with. You didn’t flinch at a single one of our requests, some crazier than others, and we felt like we were all part of an extended team. Most notably, we wish to apologise for cutting and chopping up your venue but also to thank you for allowing us free reign (and the support!) to do so!

We will not hesitate to recommend you to others and look forward to working with you again in future. Please forward our thanks to everyone in your team who helped make our launch such a success.

Thanks again!

We have been coming to Misty Hills on a regular basis for the last 5 Years. And I would go so far as to say you will have to look very far to find a better hotel. From the start of our relationship with this hotel Lewis Mujati has been there, I have seen him Progress from Receptionist to Manager The guy is absolutely brilliant in what he does, and how he is always able to get me a room doesn't matter when I call I will never know. The previous manager Gilbert was always on hand and helpful. I must say Peter van Raaij has stepped in and got things right from the start. Teunis is also always around when needed. Praise God is the friendliest porter you will meet anywhere in the world ( Trust me I have been a couple of places National and International) Adolfina I am eternally grateful to you for getting my daughters clothes clean( still don't know how you did it)Johanna, Melusi, Kenny Blessing, the names are to many to mention for great service. To spend you wedding anniversary dinner at a table specially set up for you in the wine cellar with candles and rose petals so that you can have time alone was absolutely devine.

This hotel is tops of many places that we have stayed AND WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK.

I treated family and guests from the States on the eve of New Year 2012, and booked five deluxe rooms. Although the Spa was fully booked out, we had an amazing time. My foreign guests who love Africa, were visibly moved by the setting and views. The breakfast was fulfilling and the sights and water features were relaxing and peaceful. Being a local, I always chill at this getaway and the kids are always entertained. Thank you to the wonderful staff who were always eager to please. The Carnivore is a must to experience and halaal meals may be catered. .

Room Tip: Various rooms to choose, but the best rooms for value are the Deluxe Rooms.

Just outside of Johannesburg, I have spent many a day relaxing at the pool, in a Botanical setting. As a preacher who travels extensively, returning to Misty Hills is better, than home!
Eating at the Carnivor is my favorite African restaurant , all you can eat wild game, even crocodile! 10 minutes from Lions, Crocodile, and The Cradle on Mankind.

Stay in village 8,or if you can afford a bit more, in the Rhodes Suite, or Presidential Suite!

First hotel on our holiday and staff were very accommodating when we turned up early after an overnight flight. Room was simple but tastefully decorated. Brilliant breakfast and we also enjoyed the use of their facilities.

Old building beautifully renovated, love the persian carpets, lovely atmosphere, wonderful friendly staff, excellent food if you like a lot of meat, but other choices as well and the spa ... well, what can I say?

"Excellent stay....and great Carnivore Food....”

We stayed at Misty Hills for a night in August 2011 and right from the onset, the reservations were handled in a very professional way which was quite encouraging.

Upon arrival to the Hotel, we were welcomed by the General Manager, Gilbert Hickman himself who poured a refreshing glass of sherry as we checked in!

The rooms were great and we were lucky to get upgraded into a wonderful Suite...

We felt totally at home for the entire stay and meeting Gilbert and watching him interact with his guests made us feel part of a family.

Dinner at the Carnivore Restaurant is a must-do for anyone living in South Africa!
Great food, great staff and a wonderful atmosphere almost as good as the Nairobi Carnivore....

The Hotel is the brain child of the owner Mr Fitzgerald whom we met and admired in his vision for a real African Hotel setting done so well.

Definitely a countryside Hotel just a few minutes away from the busting Johannesburg city and Sandton City!

Well done to Gilbert and the team!

Booked 2 nights at Kedar Country hotel for a family of 2 adults and 2 children. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms, spacious. Best of all are the staff. We overslept on our final day and missed breakfast. The manager on duty was very understanding and arranged for food to be made especially for us. We were also allowed to check out late without any hassle.

On our way to the museum tour, I drove into a ditch and Mafias (not sure about the spelling of his name) was extremely helpful and him and a colleague worked tirelessly in the heat to get us out. Overall, we had a good experience and wouldn't hesitate to go back.

I travelled to Kedar to do some game reserve drives in Pilanesberg. The price from the hotel is much cheaper than nearby competitor.s It's 2.5hrs away from Joburg and 30 min from Sun City.

I travelled solo and was driven to the hotel from Joburg by John who is a very nice chap. I'm glad I didn't rent a car, as South Africa doesn't use long distance road signs; all of the road signs only show the distance to the nearest town.

The room was comfortable and I had a relaxing stay. The staff were very friendly as well. The food in the Armory was okay, but I really enjoyed the food in the pub.

When we told our South African friends we were staying in Rustenburg, they all turned up their noses and said it was an industrial town and we wouldn't see the best of South Africa. Admittedly the town itself isn't the most picturesque of places but just outside it the Kedar centre is very attractive. The accommodation and setting are great and we really enjoyed the food at the hotel's restaurant. Chef William introduced himself and served us the best steak we had all holiday (we went on to Cape Town and dined in some very upmarket restaurants so this is some compliment). We had treatments at the Spa and were very impressed with everything there. In conclusion, I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would go back myself at the first opportunity.

Came here with two friends and our husbands for the ist leg of our South African holiday. We were a bit apprehensive at first because we were told by South African friends that Rustenburg is not a very nice location. Once pass security Kedar is like being in another world, Our accommodation was individual thatched huts in what appeared like a small rainforest, everything was spotlessly clean . We enjoyed some lovely meals in the restaurant and the bar, both being very reasonably priced. Staff very very helpful and friendly. Would definitely reccommend this hotel to anybody staying in this area (felt totally safe), you won't be disappointed. Very well placed for the Pilanesburg Reserve and Sun City. Spa centre was also very good.
